Academic Shoot Reflection and Critique

1. Some challenges that I faced during the shoot were avoiding mergers and finding a main focus of the photo. It was hard to do these because there was so many people in the classroom sitting next to each other.

2. I was thinking about focusing the picture the most to avoid having blurry photos. I did this by waiting to capture the photo until the scene was mostly still and easy to focus.

3. If I could do this assignment again I would really try to avoid mergers because many of my "good" photos could not be used because there would be too many people cut out or sticking out of heads.

4. If I could do this assignment again I would make sure to keep focusing on having clear images because it made the photos easier to edit when they were not blurry.

5. Rull of thirds is the easiest to achieve because there is always some way to crop the photo to have the subject in one of the corners.

6. Avoiding mergers will be the hardest to capture because there are too many people in a single classroom to take a photo without focusing on who's being cut out or where people are standing.

7. I am still not totally clear on lines because I do not know when you can claim the photo uses lines without having a main source (such as blinds or a fence, compared to simple lines outlining a road or a table's border). I can re-look up the definition in order to understand this more clearly.

Sophie's Photojournalism Blog

I liked Sophie's photos because they were very clear and had a good subject. If she were to improve anything in her photos, she might want to consider angling the photos better in order to avoid mergers.
I was unable to comment on her page, but I would have commented:
I love the black and white photo of the boy with the chart! It looks a lot cooler than it would if it was in color. Great posts! :)
